WIth Term 3 about to commence, and that being the very last full term of your school life, you might like to begin considering how best to revise and consolidate what you’ve learned in English this year.

Sure, there’s a fair bit of work before study really begins, and two important SACs, but being prepared is important. You should consider the next round of holidays as STUDY TIME and one of the things that works for many students is to form a STUDY GROUP.

A study group is a group of students who get together for the purpose or revising and extending their knowledge together. A group of about 4-5 is ideal and it needn’t be all your best friends either. Sometimes that friendship thing, and the chatter and talk that goes with it, can get in the way of being productive. A study group focused around ONE subject, that meets irregularly before the exam can be a great way to extend your English, and a lot more useful than the ‘I’m getting an English tutor’ approach for many students.

If you’re putting a study group together, advertise it around school. Get some interested students then plan out a meeting schedule, perhaps 2 to 4 meetings and an agenda; ie. what you’ll do in the time you have allocated. It needn’t be as formal as that sounds of course, but having a plan for the meeting, having a set meeting length and time and sticking to it really helps get things done.
